Redheaded Venus of the Week 12: Lilian by Evan Wilson

Lilian

Evan Wilson is an American artist who was born in Alabama in 1953.  He studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts, Maryland Institute, College of Art and the Schuler School of Fine Arts.  In 1978 he was awarded a grant to study in Florence.

His paintings are very nineteenth century in composition and style and are reminiscent of John Singer Sargent.

The Vermilion Kimono

His nudes tend to follow the same theme of women sprawled on a bed, often lying on brightly coloured kimonos.  The Vermilion Kimono presents us with another languishing redhead.

We like these particular paintings because he has rendered our redheads' hair (top and bottom) so well.
