2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake

Unlike the concept car, it is not named the five-door CLS “Shooting Break” but “Shooting Brake”. With a length of 4956 mm, the car is only a few millimeters longer than the normal CLS. The boot has a capacity of 590 liters, but can be increased to 1550 liters by folding down the rear seat.

In order to distinguish the CLS from it’s less special branded edition, extra attention ispaid to a special finish. The most obvious option is a bed of classic American cherry wood. For those who don’t like that, there is also a edition with carpeted floor to get the aluminum luggage rails on the wooden floor standard. Each CLS Shooting Brake will get a power tailgate and rear air suspension on it. The latter provision is to ensure that the car with a heavy load will be on level.

On a motor level the Shooting brake is equal to a four-doored CLS, that is except the AMG version. This means that the 204 bhp 250 CDI four-cylinder engine is the entry level. The diesel version is in the form of a 350-CDI with 265 hp. On the gasoline range is a choice from the CLS 350 (306 hp), and the preliminary model, the CLS 500. The latter, a 408 hp V8 version is planned as the 350 CDI is available with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Mercedes’ 7G-tronic automatic transmission is standard on all CLS’s.

The GT3 version of the MP4-12C was announced late 2010 and last year rode his first races, but those were just “test” races. The experience gained last year, McLaren incorporated an updated version of the MP4-12C GT3. For this season they have up to 25 cars built by different teams (such as Gemballa) that will be used in different championships.

Besides the beautiful colors and lines it is mainly the story behind this Ford Shelby GT500 Cobra that matters. On the 10th of May this year, Carroll Shelby died, creator of the Shelby Cobra, at the age of 89 in a hospital in Dallas, Texas. His eventful life in Formula 1 and the 24 hours of Le Mans, Ford made him an icon in the automotive world.

Friends at Ford Motor Company, Shelby American and Ford Racing built alongside this unique Shelby GT500 Shelby Cobra with 850 hp. With this number of horses this is by fat the strongest Cobra ever. The car was unveiled at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, where it was the showpiece of 2012. This year is the 50th anniversary for the original Shelby Cobra, so this was an opportunity to make a real Cobra. The unique car that came from this project should be just as Carroll Shelby had in mind.

As a basis a 671 hp 2013 Shelby GT500 was used, but with the help of a Ford Racing 4.0-liter Whipple supercharger the cars spits out 850 hp version. A significant increase. So much force on the ground, the 13-inch rear wheels with high-performance tires for that extra grip.

Shelby American produced a specially designed hood, a new wide body kit for the hips, Shelby Wilwood brakes and new 20 × 13-inch rear wheels and 20 × 10-inch front wheels. The body is finished with the same Guardsman Blue and Wimbledon White stripes that graced many Cobra roadsters in the 1960s.
